Top Questions Members Ask at Year-End

(click question to open answer)

I'm not sure I'll use the Club next year. Do I have to cancel my membership?
Not necessarily.

Many members choose a leave option instead of cancelling. Depending on your circumstances, a One-Year Leave or Special Leave may allow you to preserve the value of your membership while taking time away from the Club. If you're unsure which option is right for you, Member Services can help explain the differences.

What's the difference between cancelling and taking a leave?
The biggest difference is your ability to return in the future.

Members who cancel and later wish to return must reapply and pay the initiation fee in effect at that time. Members on an approved leave may apply for reinstatement without paying a new initiation fee.

I sold my boat. Do I have to cancel my membership?
No.

Membership and moorage are separate. Many members retain their membership even if they no longer actively own a boat. Many choose to become part of the KYC Boat Club and enjoy access to the Club's rental fleet and member amenities.

Can I cancel my moorage and keep my membership?
Yes.

Membership and moorage are separate. Many members retain their membership while cancelling their moorage.

What happens to my moorage if I take a leave?
Members taking either a One-Year Leave or Special Leave must cancel their moorage.

When do I need to submit my cancellation, leave, or membership change request?
To avoid being billed for the upcoming membership year, requests must be submitted by October 31.

What happens if I miss the October 31 deadline?
Memberships, moorage, and paddle club registrations automatically renew on November 1. Requests received after October 31 may result in the upcoming year's dues, fees, or moorage charges being applied to your account. If you have missed the deadline, please contact Member Services as soon as possible.

Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Monthly payment plans are available for membership dues, fees, and moorage. Prepaid spend is not included in monthly payment plans and must be paid in full by November 30.

To switch to monthly payments, complete either the Pre-Authorized Debit Form or Recurring Credit Card Authorization Form.

Note: Members using recurring credit card payments must add their credit card information through the statement page on the Member Website or Mobile App.

Are there any additional costs associated with paying monthly?
No, monthly payment plans do not incur additional fees.

Why did I receive a statement if I pay monthly?
All members receive an annual statement on November 1. Members enrolled in a monthly payment plan will continue to have their dues and fees collected throughout the year; however, the annual prepaid spend amount is billed separately and remains due on November 30.

When will I receive my annual statement?
Annual statements are typically issued during the first week of November each year. Statements are emailed to members and are also available through the member website and mobile app.

How do I read my statement?
The first page of your statement provides a summary of your account, including balances owing, dues, fees, prepaid spend requirements, payments, and credits.

Additional pages contain the detailed transaction history and individual receipts that make up your account activity during the statement period. Many charges shown on the account summary can be traced back to the detailed receipts included later in the statement.

If you have questions about a specific charge, please contact Member Services or Member Accounts.

What exactly is prepaid spend?
Prepaid spend is an annual spending commitment that can be used throughout the Club on eligible purchases. It is money that remains yours to spend at the Club during the membership year for purchases in the Member Lounge, The Galley Cafe, select Events, and select Catering Events.

Where can I find my available prepaid spend balance and what can I use it for?
Your available prepaid spend balance can be found at the bottom of the first page of your monthly statement. For the most up-to-date balance, please contact Member Services or Member Accounts. Prepaid spend can be used for:

Dining in the Member Lounge

The Galley Lakeside Cafe

Catering

Wine purchases

Club merchandise

Eligible food and beverage purchases

When does prepaid spend expire?
Any unused prepaid spend expires on October 31, the last day of the current membership year. Unused balances cannot be carried forward to the next membership year.

When is prepaid spend due?
Your annual prepaid spend is billed on November 1 and must be paid in full by November 30.

What happens if I don't pay my statement by November 30?
Late fees will be applied beginning December 1. Membership and moorage privileges may ultimately be cancelled if outstanding balances remain unpaid.

Do I need to apply for Winter Moorage every year?
Yes.

Members wishing to keep their vessel at the Club over the winter season must submit a Winter Moorage Agreement each year.
