Blind Fishing Derby

Every year, Kelowna Yacht Club members come out and support the visually impaired residents of our community by giving them the opportunity to experience the Okanagan Lake by:

  • Taking guests on your boat just for a cruise – no fishing required
  • Taking guests on your boat to go fishing
  • Offering your fishing gear for the day to a host that would like to take guests fishing but doesn’t have equipment.

Volunteer skippers needed. To volunteer your time, equipment, or resources, please complete our questionnaire.

Larry Lefebvre shares that the purpose of the Kelowna Yacht Club Blind Fishing Derby is to have a focused, annual event that brings our local blind community together with our boating community.  The Blind Fishing Derby trophy (with Braille) was engraved in Memory of Past Commodore Dudley Pritchard who was an ardent supporter of the event.  Bill Mah also thanks the many skippers and volunteers who, for 3 hours each year, put their busy schedules aside to make the Blind Fishing Derby participants part of their day.  To read Larry and Bill’s full letter, click here.
